The Los Angeles Clippers have called off trade talks with the Boston Celtics on a trade deal that would send Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to LA. The Celtics were looking to receive DeAndre Jordan and two first round draft picks in return. The Clippers did not want to give up that much and have called the deal off.
Doc Rivers appears to be on his way out of Boston since he does not want to be part of a rebuilding project, and Garnett is 37 years old. Two first round picks and a solid big man is a large price to pay for a coach who is on his way out, and a player who is close to his retirement. The Celtics originally wanted Eric Bledsoe (one of the leagues youngest players with a ton of potential) to be included in the deal, but the Clippers quickly shut that down.
The Clippers will now have to focus elsewhere for their coaching search. Byron Scott is meeting with the team today (Tuesday, June 18th), while Brian Shaw meets with the team tomorrow (June 19th, Wednesday).
