Kobe Bryant’s Early Offseason Thoughts

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has recently spoken to the media about his injury recovery and Dwight Howard’s free agency plans. Kobe Bryant continues to rehab his surgically repaired Achilles and is encouraged by the early results thus far. Even with Bryant is progressing in his rehab, he is still months away from a return to the court.

“I think it’s going to be fine, I think it’s going to be more than fine. I’m very pleased with where I’m at,” Bryant said. “I can get up in the morning, get up and walk to the bathroom like nothing was wrong. There was a point where you’d get up and it’s really stiff cause I’d been immobile all night and it was tough to walk a little bit. It feels better than it did before I got hurt.”

“At the beginning stages, it was just really boring stuff. Just trying to get out the inflammation, trying to break up the scar tissue, make sure your toes are working – that sort of stuff,” Bryant said. “Now I’m starting to do a little bit more things – walking on the Alter G (treadmill), doing a little bit of the elliptical, doing some strength work, like calf raises and things like that. As soon as they take the governor off, when they think the tendon is strong enough for me to progress to really heavy weights, more conditioning, running and things like that, then it’s on me,” Bryant said. “I won’t have any fear or any worry of having the tendon rupturing again. There’s nothing I can do about it. If it goes again, it goes again. Once I’m ready to go, it’s going to be on.”

Kobe Bryant has been stressing the importance of the Lakers re-signing Dwight Howard during this offseason.

“Those guys are hard to find, they don’t grow on trees,” Bryant said, “When you have someone like that with his talent level, you have to be able to keep him and lock him in with this franchise. I’ve spoken to him maybe a couple of weeks ago, just to check in with him,” said Bryant. “I haven’t spoken to him since. I know he’s got a big decision to make and I’m sure he’ll take the visits and talk to the players on the teams he’s considering. We’ll touch base a lot more.”

DwightHowardLakersFreeAgentDwight is expect to meet with several teams. Some of the expected teams include: Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and the Atlanta Hawks. Chris Paul, who is a LA Clippers free agent this year, and Howard are planning to play together according to reports. For Howard to play on the Clippers, the Lakers would have to agree to a sign and trade with their LA rivals. The Lakers will never agree to this kind of trade with the Clippers according to reports. Kobe believes both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard will resign with their respective LA teams.

“There’s always so much talk going on, especially with big-name guys going here, going there, but that happens once in a blue moon,” Bryant said. “I think at the end of the day, everybody stays.”
